As all of you know, I'm sure - Paul Newman died a couple of days ago.
While it saddened me to hear the news of his passing, it did, however, bring back memories of a fun time in Fontana, California at the California Speedway when a good friend of mine, Terry, and I went to the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series Race.
In 2001 as a "1 year cancer free" celebration for my friend Terry (she had a double mastectomy) - I treated her to a trip to Fontana to see the Champ Car race (her and I are big fans) and we were fortunate enough to have gotten special access to the Newman - Haas pit (courtesy of a friend of Christiano DaMatta's . That vantage point put us very near to, our then favorite driver - Christiano DaMatta, and also provided us the opportunity to meet Mr. Newman himself and have our picture taken with him.
It was such a great time and will be remembered for a long time to come. Mr. Newman was so gracious to allow us to have our picture taken with him. After the photos were done, I remember him saying "Thank you, hope you ladies are having a good time" and that was that.
I remember thinking to myself - "you have no idea!"
