My wonderful friend D'Aon has a pomegranate tree that did quite well this year. The "harvest" was very bountiful.
We've begun a 'quasi' annual event (harvest results always a factor) where our little group of friends all gather up at D'Aon's house to make pomegranate jelly.
First there is the picking of the fruit from the tree.
Then there is the donning of 'old clothes' (pom juice stains BIG time!)
Then there is the removal of seeds
Then there is the juice extraction
Then there is the filtering of the juice
Then the actual jelly making can begin
This year we produced 60 jars of jelly and only used about 1/2 the poms that were harvested!
(I have more photos I still need to upload off my camera that show the "fruits of our efforts")
Alot of work, but soooooooooooo worth it! Thanks, D'Aon for sharing!
Here's a "fun" recipe D'Aon shared with us:
POPPY COCKTAILS
Ice cubes
1 part gin-based drink (recommended: Pimm's)
1 part pomegranate juice
1/2 part citrus vodka
Splash lemon-lime soda
Lemon wheel, for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a pitcher full of ice. Serve in a rocks glass with ice and a lemon wheel to garnish.
Prep Time: 5 min

Serves: 1 pitcher

Ali, I'm having to pay 99 cent each for Poms here, so no making Jelly. My kid's love them, they get about 3 each when they are in season. Dang all those poms in your wheel barrow and I can't satisfy my kiddo's pom's cravings. Hugs Marilyn
